New Event Organizers!

Hello again –

We were overwhelmed with the response to our announcement to step away from organizing the Tuscobia Winter Ultra. Thank you for sharing so many memories. We also received several messages of interest in taking the reins, and we are delighted to announce that Kari Gibbons & Erik Raivo will be the new shepherds of the Tuscobia Winter Ultra!

Kari and Erik are an integral and active part of the winter ultra community and have participated at Tuscobia many times over the years. The passion they expressed for contributing further to the winter ultra community by organizing Tuscobia excites us for the next phase of Tuscobia for everyone, including us. Please see the message below from Kari & Erik.

We are working closely with Kari & Erik to transition the event. Here are some important details:

We hope to see you on the trail!

Erik Raivo is a lifelong resident of Minnesota.  Growing up active with team sports, he later stumbled into trail running at the age of nearly 30, and progressed to the winter ultra scene about 5 years later, DNFing his first Tuscobia in 2017.  As a 5-time finisher since then, including efforts in the ski, foot, and bike division, Erik knows the event well and looks forward to a new vantage point of the Tuscobia experience.

Kari Gibbons is a passionate lover of winter and the founder of the facebook group Wild Winter Women, a community steeped in sharing intel, mentorship, and skills, so more people can get to the start AND finish line of their winter ultra.  4 time Arrowhead finisher, including a Double, multiple finisher of the Tuscobia 80 and 160 in two divisions, and Iditarod Trail Invitational 1,000 finisher in 2025.

Tuscobia has been deeply rooted in our lives for a decade through successes, losses, friends made, and stories shared.  It is an absolute honor being the stewards of this amazing event.  We wholeheartedly thank Helen and Chris for the work they have put in to make this a sustainable race that is community forward.  Thank you for the miles, and thank you for your trust!  We’ll look forward to seeing you all on the trail!
